Kitchen Spring Clean
Your kitchen has probably been through a lot the last few months. Christmas may even still be making itself known in the form of weird and wonderful chutney’s in the fridge or an appliance that made its way to a prime spot on your worktop during the festivities. It’s time for a refresh.
Tidy
That exotic spice or infused oil set you were gifted or purchased belongs in a cupboard, not taking up precious worktop space. Is that new coffee machine or smart speaker in the right place, or was that just a convenient spot at the time? If it’s not something to throw away, put it away or position it with purpose.
Repair
Granted that not everyone is a DIY wizard, but a few maintenance tasks are within most peoples capabilities. Touch-up any scuffs or scratches on painted doors and don't forget the often mistreated plinths. You can also tighten loose handles and hinges, and replace dead light bulbs.
Clean
Besides all the obvious surfaces that need regular cleaning, show your appliances some love;
- Sink - Have some of your dish cloths seen better days? How many bristles are left on that scrubbing brush?
- Fridge - Get rid of that salad dressing you opened last summer, wipe the shelves and use baking soda as a natural deodoriser to eliminate any lingering smells.
- Oven - Actually make use of that brilliant self cleaning function on the oven!
- Microwave - Heat a mixture of water and vinegar or baking soda in a microwave-safe bowl for a few minutes to create steam, which will help loosen any grime, then wipe the interior with a cloth.
Inventory
Are you actually going to use those exotic spices and infused oils you just put away earlier. Or will they stay at the back of the cupboard like that chutney that went out of date in 2016. Quick inventory wins;
- Throw anything that's out of date
- Donate unopened items you'll never use
- Move older items to the front so you remember to use them
Fragrance
For a finishing touch and to mark a new season, introduce a new candle or diffuser with a fresh, light fragrance.
